There are several ways to sell jewelry, including local jewelry stores, online marketplaces, and auction houses. A dedicated website can also help sellers showcase their jewelry, attract serious buyers, and build trust by marketing directly to end users. Each method has its own advantages and considerations, from the speed and convenience of a jewelry store to the global reach of an online auction. When selling online, visuals and trust are primary drivers for buyers, since they cannot physically inspect the products.

The types of jewelry you can sell are as varied as the pieces themselves—diamond rings, gold necklaces, silver bracelets, and even unique estate jewelry all have their place in the resale world. Selling through a reputable buyer ensures you receive a fair price and a smooth process, whether you’re looking to sell a single piece or an entire collection. Good service from an experienced buyer can make all the difference, providing you with expert guidance and peace of mind throughout the sale.

As you explore your options, remember that the jewelry market is vast and dynamic. From local buyers to international auctions, there’s a world of potential buyers ready to purchase your jewelry. The key is to choose the right path for your needs, ensuring you get the best value and a wonderful experience from start to finish. Keep in mind that jewelry sales often peak during major gift-giving seasons such as Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, which can influence the timing of your sale.

Understanding Jewelry Types

Understanding the different types of jewelry is essential for making informed decisions when buying, selling, or maintaining your collection. Here are some key definitions to help you identify your pieces:

  • Antique jewelry: Pieces that are over 100 years old. These items often carry significant historical and collectible value.
  • Vintage jewelry: Typically refers to items that are at least 20 years old but less than 100 years old. Vintage pieces can be highly sought after, especially if they reflect the style of a particular era.
  • Designer jewelry: Includes pieces made by well-known brands or designers, such as Tiffany, Cartier, or Van Cleef. Designer jewelry often commands higher prices due to brand recognition and craftsmanship.
  • Signed jewelry: Refers to pieces that are marked with the designer’s name or logo. Signed jewelry is often more desirable and valuable because it verifies authenticity and origin.

Fine jewelry is crafted from precious metals such as gold, silver, and platinum, often featuring diamonds or other valuable gemstones. These pieces are prized for their quality, durability, and lasting value. Estate jewelry, which has been previously owned and often passed down through generations, can carry significant historical and sentimental value. Silver jewelry and silver coins are popular for their affordability and timeless appeal, while loose diamonds, dental gold, and scrap gold represent materials that can be sold individually or repurposed into new pieces.

When organizing your collection, a jewelry box is a practical way to keep your rings, diamond jewelry, and other valuables safe and in good condition. The value of jewelry can be affected by factors such as age, condition, brand, and market demand. Understanding the characteristics and value of your jewelry—whether it’s a diamond ring, platinum band, or a collection of coins—ensures you receive a fair price when it’s time to sell. By recognizing the unique qualities of each type, from precious metals to gemstones, you can make confident decisions that maximize the value of your jewelry.

Now that you know the different types of jewelry, let’s look at how to get the best value when selling your pieces.

Sell Your Jewelry for Top Dollar in Boca Raton

If you have old jewelry sitting in a jewelry box and want to turn it into extra cash, you are in the right place. This section gives you the direct answer: where to go and what to expect when you decide to sell.

David Stern Jewelers in Boca Raton actively buys gold, silver, sterling silverware, platinum, diamond jewelry, designer pieces, and numismatic coins every business day. Whether you walk in with a single diamond ring or an inherited collection spanning decades, our buyers are ready to evaluate and make an offer.

We consistently pay some of the highest prices in Boca Raton because we track daily precious metals markets and current secondhand jewelry demand. A 14k gold bracelet weighing 20 grams, for example, has a calculable melt value based on that day’s spot price—and we build our offers from those real numbers. Similarly, a 1 carat loose diamond with GIA documentation receives a fair price based on current wholesale demand for that quality grade.

It’s important to note that local jewelry stores often buy at a lower price and sell at a higher price to consumers, which can result in lower offers for sellers. Many customers have observed that selling to local jewelry stores results in lower valuations compared to online services. Express Gold Cash has been noted for offering higher prices than local pawn shops and jewelry stores.

Sellers can bring single items like one engagement ring or entire estates collected over decades. We regularly purchase pieces from the 1940s through the early 2000s, including vintage jewelry with old European cut diamonds and estate jewelry from grandparents’ collections, drawing on our experience as best gold and jewelry buyers in Boca Raton. Nothing is too old or too eclectic.

Our buying process is private, fully transparent, and typically takes 15–30 minutes per client depending on how many items you bring. You will never feel pressured, and our buyers take time to explain exactly how they arrived at each offer.

Preparing Jewelry for Sale

Getting your jewelry ready for sale is an important step that can help you achieve a better price and a smoother transaction. Here’s how to prepare:

Clean and Polish Your Jewelry

  • Clean and polish each piece to highlight its beauty and craftsmanship—sparkling jewelry is always more appealing to potential buyers.
  • For diamond jewelry, use a soft brush and mild soap to gently clean stones and settings.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals or aggressive cleaning, especially for antique or delicate pieces.

Gather Documentation

  • Collect any relevant documentation, such as appraisals, diamond certificates, or receipts. Including documentation such as appraisals and certificates can enhance the value of your jewelry when selling.
  • GIA or AGS diamond grading reports, original designer boxes, and purchase receipts can support higher offers and speed up the process.

Take High-Quality Photos

  • Taking clear, high-quality photos of your jewelry is essential for preparing it for sale.
  • High-quality, bright photos with multiple angles are crucial for effective visual presentation of jewelry.
  • Use bright, indirect natural light and provide at least three views of jewelry items to enhance visual quality.
  • Using high-quality, detailed photography and compelling storytelling creates an emotional connection with buyers.
  • Compelling descriptions of jewelry should include the piece’s story, unique features, and sizing.
  • Selling jewelry typically involves providing clear images and detailed information about the items to potential buyers.

Organize and Present Your Jewelry

  • Organize your jewelry in a jewelry box or case to keep everything secure and easy to display during the evaluation process.
  • Presenting your items neatly not only makes a good impression but also helps buyers assess the quality and value more efficiently.

By taking these steps, you’ll be well-prepared to sell your jewelry and maximize your return.

Ready to sell? Next, let’s explore how to care for your jewelry to maintain its value and appeal.

Jewelry Care and Maintenance

Proper care and maintenance are key to preserving the beauty and value of your jewelry for years to come. Silver jewelry, for example, can tarnish if exposed to air and moisture, so regular polishing and storage in a dry, lined jewelry box will help maintain its shine. Diamond jewelry, including diamond rings and engagement rings, should be cleaned gently with a soft brush and mild soap to keep the stones sparkling. Luxury watches require periodic servicing by professionals to ensure their mechanisms remain accurate and reliable.

Avoid exposing your jewelry to harsh chemicals, such as chlorine or household cleaners, as these can damage metals and gemstones. When not in use, store each piece separately to prevent scratches and tangling, especially for delicate items from brands like Tiffany, Cartier, or Van Cleef. By taking these simple steps, you’ll enjoy longer wear from your favorite pieces and can command a higher price if you decide to sell. Well-maintained jewelry is more attractive to potential buyers and can help you achieve a better price and a smoother sale process.

With your jewelry in top condition, let’s look at the best places to sell and what to watch out for.

Best Places to Sell Jewelry (and Where to Be Careful)

Understanding your options helps you make the best decision. This section compares common selling channels so you can see how David Stern Jewelers fits into the landscape of potential buyers.

Local Specialist Buyers (Like David Stern Jewelers)

Selling to a local specialist buyer typically offers the best mix of high prices, safety, and speed. At our jewelry store, we evaluate and pay on the spot. There is no waiting for auction results, no shipping risk, and no wondering if a check will clear. You leave with cash or a check the same day you walk in.

Auction Houses

Large international auction houses can achieve strong prices for very rare pieces—think museum-quality Cartier bracelets or significant signed pieces. However, they charge seller fees (often 10–25%), and some platforms charge fees based on the final sale price, which can vary significantly depending on the value of the items sold. Auction houses also require shipping fully insured items to distant locations, and can take months to complete a sale and deliver payment. For most jewelry, auction is not practical.

Pawn Shops and Cash-for-Gold Kiosks

Pawn shops may offer quick transactions, but they typically provide some of the lowest payouts. Their business model relies on quick turnover and higher margins, which means you receive less. A local pawnshop might offer 10–20% less than a specialist buyer for the same gold bracelet.

Online Sales to Private Buyers

Selling online through platforms or directly to private buyers might achieve higher retail-like prices. eBay allows for auction-style sales to maximize profit and is highly versatile for all types of jewelry. Etsy is ideal for handmade and unique vintage items, offering a built-in audience, while Shopify is best for building an independent brand, offering total control and scalability. Selling jewelry online is best achieved through a mix of niche marketplaces like Etsy and dedicated platforms like Shopify. However, this approach comes with:

  • Shipping risk (even fully insured packages can be lost or damaged)
  • Fraud concerns (payment reversals, counterfeit cashier’s checks)
  • Significant time investment (photographing, listing, communicating, shipping)
  • No guarantee of sale

For secure transactions, always meet in safe public places or use reputable shipping services. When shipping high-value jewelry, USPS Registered Mail is recommended for maximum security. Many reputable websites provide pre-paid, insured shipping labels and instructions for sending jewelry securely through the mail, enhancing convenience and trust for both buyers and sellers.

For most people in South Florida, walking into a trusted, established Boca Raton buyer like David Stern Jewelers is usually the most practical way to get a strong, same-day offer with good service and zero shipping hassles, especially when you follow guidance on choosing the best place to sell your jewelry in Boca Raton.

Selling Diamond Jewelry
at David Stern Jewelers for the Highest Prices in Boca Raton

Now that you know where to sell, let’s dive into the specifics of selling diamond jewelry and luxury pieces.

Selling Diamond Jewelry

Selling diamond jewelry can be a rewarding experience when you know how to navigate the process. Start by having your diamond jewelry evaluated by a reputable jewelry store or a certified gemological institute to determine its quality and value. Key factors such as the cut, color, clarity, and carat weight of the diamonds, as well as the type of metal in the setting, all influence the final price.

When you’re ready to sell, look for buyers who offer a fair price and good service—this could be a local jewelry store, a trusted online platform, or even a pawn shop. Many online services provide a free shipping label and a super easy process, allowing you to send your jewelry securely and receive payment directly to your bank account. Always compare offers and read reviews to ensure you’re working with a reputable buyer; strong customer ratings and reviews of jewelry buyers can be a helpful indicator of trust. By taking these steps, you can get the most money for your diamond jewelry, enjoy a wonderful experience, and feel confident that you’re receiving the value your pieces deserve.

Luxury Watches and High-End Jewelry

Luxury watches and high-end jewelry are among the most coveted items in the world of fine jewelry. Brands like Tiffany, Cartier, and Van Cleef are renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship, timeless designs, and enduring value. If you’re looking to sell a luxury watch or a piece of high-end jewelry, it’s important to choose a buyer who understands the true worth of these brands and can connect you with serious potential buyers.

You might consider consigning your watch or jewelry to a reputable auction house, where it can be presented to a global audience and potentially achieve a higher price. Alternatively, selling directly to a specialist buyer or through a trusted online platform can offer a faster sale and immediate payment. Be sure to provide detailed descriptions, high-quality photos, and any certificates or appraisals to support the value of your item, similar to how we present elegant diamond jewelry with verified customer feedback. By working with experienced buyers and presenting your luxury pieces in the best possible light, you can feel confident in the sale and secure the best possible price for your investment.

Selling Jewelry at Auction

Selling jewelry at auction is an excellent way to reach a wide audience of collectors and maximize your return, especially for unique or high-value pieces like luxury watches and designer jewelry. Auction houses such as Christie’s and Sotheby’s are known for attracting global buyers and achieving strong sale prices for rare and desirable items. Before consigning your jewelry, make sure you understand the auction process, including any fees, commissions, and the setting of reserve prices to protect your interests.

Online auction platforms also offer convenient options for selling jewelry, often with a streamlined process and immediate payment once your item sells. Some companies provide a no-obligation evaluation and free shipping, making it easy to participate from anywhere. Whether you’re selling a single piece or an entire collection, auctioning your jewelry can help you get the most money and a fair price, while connecting you with serious buyers who understand current record gold price opportunities. By researching your options and choosing the right auction house or platform, you can ensure a successful sale and a smooth, rewarding experience.

If your piece has designer appeal or collectible coins have numismatic premiums, we explain those factors too.
  4. Written or Verbal Offer
    • We provide a clear offer for each category:
      • Gold scrap pieces
      • Diamond jewelry
      • Platinum items
      • Silverware and silver jewelry
      • Coins

Tips to Get the Most Money When You Sell Jewelry

A little advance work helps ensure you get the better price your items deserve. Here are practical preparation tips to increase offers or speed up the process when you visit:

Separate Items by Metal Type

  • Sort items by metal color and type:
    • Yellow gold pieces together
    • White gold pieces together
    • Platinum pieces together
    • Silver and silverware together
  • Remove obvious costume jewelry (items marked “plated,” “filled,” or with green discoloration). This saves evaluation time and helps our buyers focus on pieces with real value.

Bring Original Paperwork

  • Documentation can support higher offers for certain pieces:
    • GIA or AGS diamond grading reports
    • Appraisals from the 1990s–2020s (helpful context even if values have changed)
    • Original Tiffany, Cartier, or other designer boxes
    • Purchase receipts where available
  • The Gemological Institute (GIA) reports are particularly valuable for diamonds, as they provide independent verification of the 4Cs and support professional gold and diamond selling services in Boca Raton.

Clean Presentation Helps

  • Clean, presentable pieces make it easier to identify designer marks and diamond quality. That said, professional cleaning is not required beforehand. Do not scrub antique pieces aggressively—sometimes patina indicates age and authenticity.

Check Current Spot Prices

  • Before visiting, check current approximate gold, silver, and platinum spot prices online. This gives you a rough sense of scrap value and helps you feel confident during the evaluation. Remember that offers will be based on purity and weight, minus reasonable refining considerations.

Bring Complete Sets

  • Matching sets can sometimes command better overall offers than selling pieces separately:
    • Earrings with matching pendant or necklace
    • Full silver flatware sets rather than partial
    • Bracelets that were part of a suite
  • Complete sets often have more resale appeal to our buyers who supply the secondary market.

With these tips in mind, you’ll be ready to avoid common mistakes and make the most of your jewelry sale.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Selling jewelry can be rewarding, but there are several common mistakes that can impact your experience and the final price you receive. Avoid these pitfalls to ensure a successful sale:

Mistakes to Watch Out For

  • Failing to research the current market value of your jewelry, which can lead to accepting less than your items are worth.
  • Not disclosing any damage or flaws in your silver jewelry, diamond rings, or luxury watches, which can cause issues with buyers and affect your reputation.
  • Choosing a buyer or seller without checking their credentials or reviews, risking poor service or unfair offers.
  • Settling for less than a fair price—always compare offers and don’t be afraid to negotiate.
  • Overlooking the cost of shipping and insurance, especially for valuable rings or silver pieces. Some buyers offer free shipping, but always confirm the details.
  • Not understanding the terms of the sale, including any hidden fees or commissions that could reduce your final payout.

By staying informed and vigilant, you can protect the value of your jewelry and enjoy a smooth, stress-free sale. Whether you’re selling in person or online, taking the time to avoid these mistakes will help you get the best possible outcome.

We went to see David about a new jewelry purchase we made. We choose David for the reviews he has received. My wife and I could not be happier. David was patient answering all our questions and his advice was spot on. This is a man of integrity and we would recommend David just based on his knowledge and demeanor. We received a new appraisal within 15 minutes and the cost was reasonable as expected.
Response from the owner:Thank you for your great review Enjoy your jewelry Regards David Stern
I lost the diamond in my custom designed wedding ring when the setting prongs became loose without me realizing. I was beyond heartbroken and sad and it actually took me 4 years to look for a jeweler that I could trust to help me. My original setting was too high and I thought I would have to have the ring completely redesigned. After a diligent search , I found David Stern Jewelers. David was very welcoming and entering his store felt more like visiting an old friend than a stuffy, uptight establishment that most jewelry stores feel like (to me, anyway). David assured me that we could lower the setting and he had a beautiful pear shaped diamond that fit perfectly. And, amazingly enough, he had the new diamond in the new setting within 3 hours! I'm so happy that I walked into that little "gem" of a store and met David! He's the real deal!
Response from the owner:Thanks you for your kind review, It was have fun working with you and it was great that I had the exact diamond you were looking for at the price you wanted to spend, that it was perfect for your original ring which is sentimental to you Regards, David Stern
David, is a true designer of jewelry. He has been great understanding the design from the concept that we had in our mind and able to create it, better than we expected. He is also a very honorable person and great to work with! Gina and Paul
Response from the owner:Thank you for the outstanding review You were a pleasure to work with. Regards, David Stern
I had a wonderful experience getting some jewelry appraised. David was honest and upfront about the pieces. Gave me some good advice about buying pieces while on a cruise (will not make that mistake again!). I will be back in the future to actually purchase pieces from him as he has beautiful pieces in his store that many of them are made and designed by him directly. Very satisfied!
Response from the owner:Thank you for your great review. Best thank you anybody could give me Have a safe trip home and good luck and enjoy your sons wedding Regards David Stern
After speaking with many jewelers but being unable to schedule an appointment, David agreed to see us and appraise our ring the same day. He did a thorough and complete job explaining the process as he went. His knowledge and care were remarkable. Without prior discussion or appointment, he spontaneously and generously provided information about additional jewelry that we were unable to obtain elsewhere and he agreed to repair a bracelet we thought was unfixable - and at a reasonable price. We are grateful that we found him and Milo and we will definitely return!
Response from the owner:Thank you for your great review. It was a pleasure to work with you. So glad you enjoyed your time with me Regards. David Stern
David is very professional. He explained the process for a jewelry appraisal and provided a detailed, quality report. He is very knowledgeable about diamonds, explaining the differences between lab grown and mined diamonds. David provided a fair price to buy a diamond as well. He repaired a ring and polished my diamond while I watched. David is reputable and I would work with him again.
Response from the owner:Thank you for your kind review. It was a pleasure to work with you Regards David Stern
Great experience. Polite, professional, and resolved my issue very fast. Highly recommend.
Response from the owner:Thank you for this review. I always do my best to make the experience as pleasurable as possible
My girlfriend and I went to see David to have a few sapphires appraised and were very surprised and overly happy with not only his honesty but also his knowledge. He definitely went above and beyond! Would recommend him to anyone. Mike
Response from the owner:Thank you for your acknowledgement of my services. All was a pleasure to educate and explain clients questions. I look forward to working with you again Regards David Stern
Although writing a testimonial and supportive review is not something I often do, there are a handful of special moments in one's life when you encounter a service, product or company that thoroughly exceeds your expectations. So very much so, and in every capacity, that you feel as though you'd be remiss if you didn't share your wonderful experience with the world. THIS is one of those times! I am a REAL CUSTOMER and this is my unsolicited story. I respectfully encourage you to read on. After conducting a fair amount of Due Diligence and reading the reviews about reputable Jewelers -- just as you're probably doing right now -- I can honestly say that I couldn't be more pleased with the expert guidance, creativity and fair-priced service that I received at David Stern Jewelers. My first encounter with David Stern was by telephone, and within just a couple of minutes or so, after I had explained the nature of my multiple inquiries, I was convinced that my search efforts had paid off and that I'd truly found the right guy! I made an appointment to visit with David that afternoon and was later greeted by David at the door. His outright friendliness was candidly warm, personable and very down-to-earth. This put me at ease right away and we went into his office for a personal consultation. I explained that subsequent to my Mom's recent passing, my brother and I had inherited her fairly extensive collection of all kinds of jewelry … it included a mixture of diamond pieces, white & yellow gold bracelets, necklaces, rings, pins -- both Vintage and Current -- along with many pieces of costume jewelry. This entire collection would, at a later date, be fully evaluated, assessed and render a proposed cash offer. Among other things, I first wanted to repurpose the diamonds from two of my Mother's rings to create a one-of-a-kind Engagement Ring for my very deserving Fiancée. Like a couple of old friends working together, I described to David what I was looking for and, on very short order, David came up with a basic sketch rendering. It incorporated several sentimental stones from both of my Mom's rings ... David's creative vision for this finely crafted piece was amazing! Truthfully, ten days later when I picked up the finished ring, I was blown away by its exquisite and gleaming design … so was everyone else, especially my Fiancée … when I proposed!! It was a custom creation from the ground-up that only someone with David Stern's talent could precisely fabricate. Since the purchase of that beautiful ring, I've been back to see David several times. Each time, he insists on cleaning and polishing whatever pieces of jewelry I/we happen to have (routinely Free-of-Charge) and we're always greeted like "Family". Our most recent appointment was a three-hour Cost-Free consultation to appraise and assess our Mother's entire collection of jewelry. We selected a few pieces that we wanted to keep in the family, and then decided to accept David's generously-fair Cash-Offer for the remaining pieces. I can honestly say that when it comes to Jewelry, you won't find a nicer, more-qualified, pleasant, genuine, knowledgeable, trustworthy, considerate and fair-minded person than David Stern. You simply cannot go wrong with a guy like this and I can't think of a single reason to shop for jewelry anywhere else! David B. Boca Raton, Florida

David, the owner of the store that bears his name is a true professional with decades of experience. His advice for valuations are spot on, but more important, he will not only design for you, he will deliver as promised.
David was incredibly professional got my ring done ahead of schedule. I had been looking for somebody to make me an engagement ring for some time and felt pretty uncomfortable dealing with many of the jewelers I had spoken with. Fortunately for me I stumbled into David's shop and he walked me through all the steps and made the process super comfortable. He listened and was receptive to what I asked for in a ring, and my god did he deliver. I would recommend David Stern 10/10 times and I look forward to doing all of my future business with him.
Response from the owner:Alex, Thank you for the review. Recognition for good service and work is the best thank you I can get. Thank you again. Please think David Stern Jewelers for any future jewelry needs. No sale or custom work or repair is too big or small
I loved my experience with David! My engagement ring had been given to my husband through a string of people so we didn’t know much about it. I came into David’s jewelry shop to get some answers about it. David sat down with me and patiently answered all of my questions, told me more about the ring, and even cleaned my ring. He didn’t even end up charging me! I really enjoyed my experience and will definitely be back for all of my future jewelry needs :)

I was looking to have insurance appraisals done on a few pieces of jewelry and found David through a very lucky Google search! I wanted a private jeweler with the professional experience, but personable demeanor. David was pleasant and prompt and shared some knowledge with me while I watched him work on the evaluation. I will definitely return to him!

I just came from the store and David is amazing! He spent 3 hours with me to discuss designing a piece. He was so patient sans had amazing taste. We can't...
I brought in my engagement ring for a “second opinion” because when someone at the International Diamond Exchange resized my ring, it came back with unremovable residue under the diamonds in the setting, and denied that it was a problem. David and Colleen told me they would put it in an acid bath, and they kindly removed my center stone to avoid damaging anything. They placed the stone safely in a little pack for me to take home, which was so wonderful because it is a family stone. I hope to be picking it up soon. David said it would look as good as new! Because they were so kind, I went ahead and asked them about a design for my fiancé’s wedding ring. David gave me a great estimate and set up a plan for me that I can afford (I’m about to graduate college) and told me he would make it exactly to my specifications. I am so excited! Thanks to Rob, Colleen, and David. Such amazing service, and for a walk-in no less!
Response from the owner:Thank you for you kind review Tara. Always happy to help. I see too many easily remedied jewelry issues that upset people. Jewelry is a personal and emotional item. David Stern Jewelers is always available for advise and correction. We are not only a jewelry store we are trained professional career jewelers that do all work in house and sometimes if posible while you wait.
