Why Choose David Stern Jewelers To Sell Your Silver

For over four decades, David Stern Jewelers has established itself as a trusted destination for clients looking to sell silver jewelry, sterling flatware, and precious silver pieces. Our commitment to transparency, honesty, and integrity has built lasting relationships with customers throughout the community who return to us whenever they need professional silver appraisals. Whether you’re selling an antique silver bracelet, sterling silver earrings, or a complete flatware set, our experienced team provides in-person evaluations that ensure you understand exactly what your items are worth before making any decisions.

The silver market has unique characteristics that differ significantly from other precious metals, and understanding current market conditions is essential when deciding to sell. According to the Silver Institute, silver serves dual purposes as both a precious metal and an industrial commodity, which creates distinct pricing dynamics compared to other metals. Our specialists monitor real-time silver prices through resources like Kitco to ensure that every appraisal reflects current market values. This expertise allows us to offer competitive prices that honor the true worth of your sterling silver jewelry, collectible pieces, and investment-grade silver items.

Our Comprehensive Approach to Silver Buying

When you choose David Stern Jewelers, you’re selecting a service built on decades of hands-on experience in precious metals evaluation. Our team has developed deep expertise in assessing various forms of silver, from contemporary designer pieces to estate jewelry and antique silver items. We understand that silver purity varies significantly across different types of items. Sterling silver, which contains 92.5% pure silver as detailed by the World Silver Survey, requires different evaluation methods than coin silver or fine silver pieces. This specialized knowledge ensures accurate assessments that reflect the true composition and value of your items.

Every transaction at David Stern Jewelers is conducted with complete confidentiality and professionalism. From the moment you walk through our doors, you’ll experience a welcoming environment designed to make the selling process comfortable and straightforward. Our appraisers work directly in front of you, explaining each step of the evaluation process and answering any questions you might have about silver content, weight measurements, and current market pricing. Understanding Silver Value and Market Timing

The silver market experiences fluctuations based on industrial demand, investment trends, and global economic conditions. Recent data from the U.S. Geological Survey shows that silver’s industrial applications in electronics, solar panels, and medical equipment create steady demand that supports its value. However, unlike metals that serve purely as stores of value, silver prices can be influenced by manufacturing trends and technological developments. Our team stays informed about these market dynamics through regular consultation of resources like the London Bullion Market Association to provide you with context about current pricing trends.

The immediate cash you receive from selling silver can serve multiple purposes, from addressing financial needs to rebalancing your investment portfolio. Many clients choose to sell silver items they no longer wear or use, converting these assets into liquid capital that can be applied toward more pressing priorities. Understanding the relationship between silver prices and broader economic indicators, as reported by financial sources like Bloomberg Precious Metals, helps you make informed decisions about timing your sale. Our commitment is to provide you with the information and fair pricing you need to proceed with confidence, regardless of current market conditions.

Designer Silver and Luxury Brand Expertise

David Stern Jewelers welcomes fine designer silver jewelry from prestigious brands including Tiffany & Co., David Yurman, John Hardy, and Georg Jensen. These luxury pieces often carry value beyond their silver content, with brand recognition, craftsmanship, and design contributing significantly to their worth. Our specialists have extensive experience evaluating designer silver pieces, understanding that items from renowned makers deserve assessments that consider both precious metal content and artistic merit. Whether you’re selling contemporary designer creations or vintage signed pieces, we provide thorough evaluations that recognize the full spectrum of value these items possess.

Sterling silver flatware and hollowware from established manufacturers like Gorham, Reed & Barton, and Wallace also represent significant value. Many families inherit complete silver services or partial sets that they no longer use, and these items can be substantial assets worth considerable amounts based on weight, pattern rarity, and condition. Our team evaluates silver serving pieces, tea sets, candelabras, and decorative items with the same attention to detail we apply to jewelry, ensuring that every ounce of silver receives proper consideration in our offer.

The Professional Difference in Silver Evaluation

Choosing a specialized precious metals buyer rather than a general pawnshop provides distinct advantages when selling silver items. Professional silver buying services focus exclusively on precious metals evaluation, which means the team develops refined expertise in testing methods, purity assessment, and accurate weight measurement. This specialization translates directly into better pricing for sellers, as experienced buyers can identify the true silver content in items that might be undervalued by less knowledgeable purchasers. The testing process involves non-destructive methods that verify silver purity without damaging your items, giving you peace of mind that your pieces are handled with appropriate care.

The atmosphere and approach at David Stern Jewelers reflect our commitment to customer-focused service. Unlike the sometimes impersonal environment of multi-purpose buying locations, we’ve created a professional setting specifically designed for precious metals transactions. This includes secure, private consultation areas where you can discuss your items without concerns about privacy. Our specialists take the time to explain the factors affecting silver prices, including considerations documented by organizations like the CME Group, ensuring you understand exactly how we arrive at our offers.

When you Sell Your Diamond Jewelry at David Stern Jewelers, it’s helpful to understand the factors that influence diamond values in today’s market, as outlined by leading gemological institutions. Diamond shape popularity plays a role since round brilliant diamonds typically hold their value best while fancy shapes may fluctuate based on current fashion trends, and certain carat weight thresholds such as half-carat, one-carat, and two-carat marks represent significant value jumps in the diamond market. Higher clarity and color grades command exponentially higher prices, especially in larger diamonds, while diamond certification from GIA or AGS typically commands higher prices than uncertified stones, and designer settings and luxury brand names can add significant value beyond the diamond content alone. As your trusted Diamond Buyer Boca Raton, we consider all these factors when making offers for your diamond jewelry, ensuring you receive fair market value for your precious pieces.

Commonly Asked Silver Buying Questions from David Stern

How do I know if my jewelry is real silver or just silver-plated?

Authentic silver jewelry typically contains hallmarks or stamps that indicate its purity level. At David Stern Jewelers, our experienced appraisers examine each piece for these identifying marks, which usually appear as "925" or "Sterling" for sterling silver, "800" or "900" for European silver standards, or "999" for fine silver. Sterling silver, the most common form used in jewelry, contains 92.5% pure silver alloyed with 7.5% other metals, typically copper, to provide durability. Silver-plated items, on the other hand, have only a thin layer of silver over a base metal and will often be marked "EP" (electroplated), "EPNS" (electroplated nickel silver), or "Silver Plate."
During our evaluation process, we use professional testing methods including electronic testers and, when necessary, acid testing on inconspicuous areas to verify silver content. Our four decades of experience means our team can quickly identify authentic silver pieces even when hallmarks have worn away over time. We also recognize maker's marks from established silver manufacturers like Tiffany & Co., Georg Jensen, and David Yurman, which can significantly affect an item's value beyond just its silver content. If you're uncertain about whether your jewelry is genuine silver, we welcome you to bring it in for a complimentary evaluation where we'll explain exactly what you have.

What determines how much money I'll get for my silver jewelry?

The price you receive for silver jewelry depends on several interconnected factors that our appraisers carefully evaluate. The primary consideration is the current spot price of silver on the precious metals market, which fluctuates based on global supply and demand, industrial needs, and investor activity. David Stern Jewelers monitors real-time silver prices throughout the trading day to ensure our offers reflect current market conditions. The second major factor is the total weight of pure silver in your items. We use precision scales calibrated to measure in troy ounces, the standard unit for precious metals, where one troy ounce equals approximately 31.1 grams.
Beyond weight and market price, we also consider the purity of your silver items. Sterling silver at 92.5% pure silver receives a different calculation than coin silver at 90% or fine silver at 99.9%. For designer pieces or antique jewelry, the brand name, craftsmanship, condition, and collectibility can add premium value above the base silver content. A Tiffany & Co. sterling bracelet, for example, may be worth more as an intact designer piece than its melt value would suggest. Our transparent evaluation process means we explain each component of our offer, showing you how we arrived at the final price. We never pressure you to accept an offer, and you're welcome to take our appraisal and compare it with other buyers before making your decision.

Do you buy broken or damaged silver jewelry?

Absolutely. David Stern Jewelers purchases silver jewelry in any condition, including broken chains, single earrings, bent pieces, tarnished items, and incomplete sets. The condition of silver jewelry has minimal impact on its value when selling for precious metal content because the silver itself retains its worth regardless of the item's physical state. Whether your sterling silver necklace has a broken clasp, your bracelet is missing stones, or your earrings are mismatched, the pure silver content remains valuable and marketable.
In fact, many of our clients bring in damaged jewelry that's been sitting unused in drawers for years precisely because it's no longer wearable. Our evaluation process focuses on the actual silver content, weight, and purity rather than aesthetic condition. We even purchase scrap silver, old dental work containing silver, and sterling silver items that have been partially melted or deformed. The only exception would be silver-plated items with significant damage where the base metal is exposed, as these contain minimal actual silver. During your appraisal, we'll separate genuine silver pieces from plated items and explain the value of everything you've brought in, giving you the option to sell all or just selected pieces.

Should I clean my silver jewelry before bringing it in to sell?

There's no need to clean your silver jewelry before bringing it to David Stern Jewelers, and in some cases, cleaning could actually be counterproductive. Our professional appraisers evaluate silver based on weight and purity, not appearance, so tarnish and patina don't reduce the value of your items when selling for silver content. In fact, aggressive cleaning of antique or collectible silver pieces can sometimes diminish their value by removing desirable patina that collectors prize or by causing microscopic scratches that affect the piece's integrity.
That said, if you prefer to present your items in better condition for your own peace of mind, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is perfectly fine. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive polishes, or ultrasonic cleaners unless you're certain about the piece's construction, as some silver jewelry contains delicate gemstones or special finishes that can be damaged by aggressive cleaning methods. Our team has seen silver in every possible condition over the past forty years, from pristine pieces to heavily tarnished estate jewelry, and we treat all clients and their items with equal respect. We're more interested in accurately assessing your silver's true value than in how it looks when you walk through our door.

How long does the silver selling process take?

The entire process of selling silver jewelry at David Stern Jewelers typically takes between fifteen to thirty minutes, depending on the quantity and complexity of items you're selling. We've streamlined our evaluation procedure to be both thorough and efficient, respecting your time while ensuring accuracy. When you arrive, one of our experienced appraisers will examine your items, test for silver content and purity, weigh each piece on our precision scales, and calculate an offer based on current market prices. This all happens in front of you, so you can see exactly how we're evaluating your jewelry.
If you accept our offer, payment is immediate. We provide cash on the spot for most transactions, eliminating the waiting periods that some buyers impose. For larger transactions, we can also provide payment via check or bank transfer if you prefer. There's no obligation to accept our offer during your visit. Many clients appreciate the opportunity to consider our appraisal, compare it with other buyers, or simply think about their decision overnight. You're welcome to take our written offer with you and return later if you decide to proceed. We don't use high-pressure sales tactics or time-limited offers. Our goal is to provide you with fair, transparent pricing and let you make the decision that's right for your circumstances.

What's the difference between sterling silver and fine silver, and does it affect the price?

Sterling silver and fine silver represent different purity levels, and understanding this distinction helps explain how we calculate offers. Fine silver contains 99.9% pure silver and is marked as ".999" or "Fine Silver." While it has the highest silver content, fine silver is relatively soft and bends easily, which is why it's less common in everyday jewelry. Sterling silver, marked "925" or "Sterling," contains 92.5% pure silver alloyed with 7.5% other metals, usually copper. This alloy provides the strength and durability needed for jewelry that withstands daily wear while maintaining the beautiful luster silver is known for.
The purity difference does affect pricing, but in a straightforward, mathematical way. At David Stern Jewelers, we calculate the pure silver content in each piece based on its purity level and weight, then apply current market rates. A fine silver piece will yield slightly more per ounce than an equivalent sterling silver piece because it contains more actual silver. However, sterling silver is far more common in jewelry, and many valuable designer pieces are made from sterling specifically because of its superior working properties. We also evaluate Britannia silver (95.8% pure, marked .958), coin silver (90% pure, common in antique American pieces), and various European silver standards. Our appraisers explain which purity level your items contain and show you the exact calculations we use to determine your offer.

Do I need to bring anything with me when I come to sell my silver?

For the silver selling process itself, you only need to bring your silver jewelry items. However, bringing a valid government-issued photo identification is required to complete the transaction. This is a standard legal requirement for precious metals dealers and helps prevent the sale of stolen property. Acceptable forms of ID include a driver's license, state ID card, passport, or military ID. The identification requirement applies in most jurisdictions and is part of our commitment to operating a legitimate, law-abiding business that protects both our customers and the community.
If you have any documentation related to your silver items, such as original receipts, certificates of authenticity, appraisals, or provenance information, bringing these can be helpful, especially for designer pieces or antique jewelry. While not necessary for items being sold purely for silver content, documentation can establish additional value for collectible pieces. For example, original Tiffany & Co. paperwork or proof of a piece's age and maker can justify a premium above melt value. That said, the absence of paperwork doesn't prevent you from selling your items. Our experienced appraisers at David Stern Jewelers can identify designer marks, hallmarks, and quality indicators even without supporting documentation. We've evaluated countless pieces over forty years and have developed the expertise to recognize valuable items regardless of whether original papers exist.

How do you test silver to verify it's authentic?

David Stern Jewelers employs multiple testing methods to accurately verify silver authenticity and purity, always selecting the least invasive approach appropriate for each item. Our primary method is electronic testing using professional precious metals analyzers. These sophisticated devices use X-ray fluorescence technology to determine the exact composition of metal alloys without causing any damage to your jewelry. The analyzer provides immediate, accurate readings of silver purity, distinguishing between sterling silver, fine silver, coin silver, and silver-plated items in seconds.
For items where electronic testing proves inconclusive, we may use traditional acid testing, which involves applying a small drop of testing acid to an inconspicuous area of the piece, typically on the inside of a ring or the back of a pendant. Different acid solutions react distinctively with various silver purities, allowing our experienced appraisers to verify authenticity and purity level. We only use acid testing when necessary and always in locations that won't affect the item's appearance or value. Our team also relies on visual inspection of hallmarks, weight-to-size ratios, and other physical characteristics developed through decades of hands-on experience. Many silver pieces reveal their authenticity through subtle details that trained eyes can identify, such as the color of tarnish, the sound when tapped, or the way light reflects off the surface. This multi-faceted approach ensures accurate assessment while treating your items with appropriate care and respect.

Can you buy silver jewelry with gemstones or other materials?

Yes, David Stern Jewelers purchases silver jewelry that incorporates gemstones, pearls, enamel work, or other materials. The evaluation process for these pieces is more nuanced than for plain silver items because we assess both the silver content and any additional valuable components. When your jewelry contains genuine gemstones like diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, or rubies, we evaluate these stones separately based on their quality, size, and market value. In many cases, pieces combining quality gemstones with silver settings may be worth more as intact jewelry than they would be if separated into components.
Our appraisers carefully examine combination pieces to determine the best value proposition for you. Sometimes a well-crafted designer piece with excellent stones should remain whole, while other times the individual components have greater separate value. We explain our assessment and recommendations transparently, giving you the information needed to make an informed decision. For silver jewelry with semi-precious stones, glass, cubic zirconia, or decorative elements that have minimal independent value, we focus primarily on the silver content while considering the piece's overall aesthetic appeal. We also purchase sterling silver watches, silver jewelry with leather or fabric components, and pieces with damaged or missing stones. Our comprehensive approach means you can bring all your unwanted silver jewelry in one visit, regardless of complexity or condition, and receive professional evaluation for everything you own.

Do you offer price matching or guarantees on your silver buying offers?

At David Stern Jewelers, we stand behind our offers with a satisfaction guarantee rooted in four decades of fair dealing and transparent pricing. While we don't offer traditional "price matching" in the retail sense, we do guarantee that our offers reflect current precious metals market prices combined with fair, competitive buying rates. Our pricing is based on real-time silver spot prices from established commodities exchanges, and we're always willing to show you the current market rate we're using to calculate your offer. We encourage customers to compare our appraisals with other reputable buyers because we're confident our combination of accurate assessment, fair pricing, and professional service represents genuine value.
If you receive a significantly higher legitimate offer from another buyer, we welcome the opportunity to review our appraisal and discuss any discrepancies. Sometimes differences arise from varying purity assessments, weight measurements, or market price timing, and we're happy to explain our evaluation in detail. Our reputation has been built on honest, straightforward transactions where customers feel confident they've received fair value for their silver items. We never use bait-and-switch tactics or artificially inflate offers only to reduce them during the transaction. The offer we present after evaluation is the amount you'll receive if you choose to sell. This straightforward approach, combined with immediate cash payment and respectful service, is why customers have trusted David Stern Jewelers for over forty years when they need to sell silver jewelry and other precious metals.

We went to see David about a new jewelry purchase we made. We choose David for the reviews he has received. My wife and I could not be happier. David was patient answering all our questions and his advice was spot on. This is a man of integrity and we would recommend David just based on his knowledge and demeanor. We received a new appraisal within 15 minutes and the cost was reasonable as expected.
Response from the owner:Thank you for your great review Enjoy your jewelry Regards David Stern

My jewelry was appraised by David Stern at his Boca Raton location. David Stern is a professional who explained the jewelry appraisal process with clarity...
Although writing a testimonial and supportive review is not something I often do, there are a handful of special moments in one's life when you encounter a service, product or company that thoroughly exceeds your expectations. So very much so, and in every capacity, that you feel as though you'd be remiss if you didn't share your wonderful experience with the world. THIS is one of those times! I am a REAL CUSTOMER and this is my unsolicited story. I respectfully encourage you to read on. After conducting a fair amount of Due Diligence and reading the reviews about reputable Jewelers -- just as you're probably doing right now -- I can honestly say that I couldn't be more pleased with the expert guidance, creativity and fair-priced service that I received at David Stern Jewelers. My first encounter with David Stern was by telephone, and within just a couple of minutes or so, after I had explained the nature of my multiple inquiries, I was convinced that my search efforts had paid off and that I'd truly found the right guy! I made an appointment to visit with David that afternoon and was later greeted by David at the door. His outright friendliness was candidly warm, personable and very down-to-earth. This put me at ease right away and we went into his office for a personal consultation. I explained that subsequent to my Mom's recent passing, my brother and I had inherited her fairly extensive collection of all kinds of jewelry … it included a mixture of diamond pieces, white & yellow gold bracelets, necklaces, rings, pins -- both Vintage and Current -- along with many pieces of costume jewelry. This entire collection would, at a later date, be fully evaluated, assessed and render a proposed cash offer. Among other things, I first wanted to repurpose the diamonds from two of my Mother's rings to create a one-of-a-kind Engagement Ring for my very deserving Fiancée. Like a couple of old friends working together, I described to David what I was looking for and, on very short order, David came up with a basic sketch rendering. It incorporated several sentimental stones from both of my Mom's rings ... David's creative vision for this finely crafted piece was amazing! Truthfully, ten days later when I picked up the finished ring, I was blown away by its exquisite and gleaming design … so was everyone else, especially my Fiancée … when I proposed!! It was a custom creation from the ground-up that only someone with David Stern's talent could precisely fabricate. Since the purchase of that beautiful ring, I've been back to see David several times. Each time, he insists on cleaning and polishing whatever pieces of jewelry I/we happen to have (routinely Free-of-Charge) and we're always greeted like "Family". Our most recent appointment was a three-hour Cost-Free consultation to appraise and assess our Mother's entire collection of jewelry. We selected a few pieces that we wanted to keep in the family, and then decided to accept David's generously-fair Cash-Offer for the remaining pieces. I can honestly say that when it comes to Jewelry, you won't find a nicer, more-qualified, pleasant, genuine, knowledgeable, trustworthy, considerate and fair-minded person than David Stern. You simply cannot go wrong with a guy like this and I can't think of a single reason to shop for jewelry anywhere else! David B. Boca Raton, Florida
Response from the owner:Wow what a great review This is the recognition that would make any artist /business man/designer get a big head I’ll keep mine under control and continue to do whatever it takes to make my clients feel as good as you have made me with your review Regards David Stern

I was recommended to visit David Stern Jewelry for an appraisal on two pieces of Alexandrite jewelry. David directed me in the right direction of including...
I brought in my engagement ring for a “second opinion” because when someone at the International Diamond Exchange resized my ring, it came back with unremovable residue under the diamonds in the setting, and denied that it was a problem. David and Colleen told me they would put it in an acid bath, and they kindly removed my center stone to avoid damaging anything. They placed the stone safely in a little pack for me to take home, which was so wonderful because it is a family stone. I hope to be picking it up soon. David said it would look as good as new! Because they were so kind, I went ahead and asked them about a design for my fiancé’s wedding ring. David gave me a great estimate and set up a plan for me that I can afford (I’m about to graduate college) and told me he would make it exactly to my specifications. I am so excited! Thanks to Rob, Colleen, and David. Such amazing service, and for a walk-in no less!
Response from the owner:Thank you for you kind review Tara. Always happy to help. I see too many easily remedied jewelry issues that upset people. Jewelry is a personal and emotional item. I was looking to have insurance appraisals done on a few pieces of jewelry and found David through a very lucky Google search! I wanted a private jeweler with the professional experience, but personable demeanor. David was pleasant and prompt and shared some knowledge with me while I watched him work on the evaluation. I will definitely return to him!
Response from the owner:Thank you for this great review It was a pleasure working with you regards David Stern
My girlfriend and I went to see David to have a few sapphires appraised and were very surprised and overly happy with not only his honesty but also his knowledge. He definitely went above and beyond! Would recommend him to anyone. Mike
Response from the owner:Thank you for your acknowledgement of my services. All was a pleasure to educate and explain clients questions. I look forward to working with you again Regards David Stern
I loved my experience with David! My engagement ring had been given to my husband through a string of people so we didn’t know much about it. I came into David’s jewelry shop to get some answers about it. David sat down with me and patiently answered all of my questions, told me more about the ring, and even cleaned my ring. He didn’t even end up charging me! I really enjoyed my experience and will definitely be back for all of my future jewelry needs :)
Response from the owner:Thank you for your great review my goal is to make each and every client lieve my store with a smile on their face When you think jewelry think David Stern Jewelers. YOU CAN SEE MY WEB SITE AT DAVIDSTERNJEWELERS .COM
David, the owner of the store that bears his name is a true professional with decades of experience. His advice for valuations are spot on, but more important, he will not only design for you, he will deliver as promised.
I lost the diamond in my custom designed wedding ring when the setting prongs became loose without me realizing. I was beyond heartbroken and sad and it actually took me 4 years to look for a jeweler that I could trust to help me. My original setting was too high and I thought I would have to have the ring completely redesigned. After a diligent search , I found David Stern Jewelers. David was very welcoming and entering his store felt more like visiting an old friend than a stuffy, uptight establishment that most jewelry stores feel like (to me, anyway). David assured me that we could lower the setting and he had a beautiful pear shaped diamond that fit perfectly. And, amazingly enough, he had the new diamond in the new setting within 3 hours! I'm so happy that I walked into that little "gem" of a store and met David! He's the real deal!
Response from the owner:Thanks you for your kind review, It was have fun working with you and it was great that I had the exact diamond you were looking for at the price you wanted to spend, that it was perfect for your original ring which is sentimental to you Regards, David Stern

David is very professional. He explained the process for a jewelry appraisal and provided a detailed, quality report. He is very knowledgeable about diamonds, explaining the differences between lab grown and mined diamonds. David provided a fair price to buy a diamond as well. He repaired a ring and polished my diamond while I watched. David is reputable and I would work with him again.
Response from the owner:Thank you for your kind review. It was a pleasure to work with you Regards David Stern

David was incredibly professional got my ring done ahead of schedule. I had been looking for somebody to make me an engagement ring for some time and felt pretty uncomfortable dealing with many of the jewelers I had spoken with. Fortunately for me I stumbled into David's shop and he walked me through all the steps and made the process super comfortable. He listened and was receptive to what I asked for in a ring, and my god did he deliver. I would recommend David Stern 10/10 times and I look forward to doing all of my future business with him.

I had a wonderful experience getting some jewelry appraised. David was honest and upfront about the pieces. Response from the owner:Thank you for the outstanding review You were a pleasure to work with. Regards, David Stern
After speaking with many jewelers but being unable to schedule an appointment, David agreed to see us and appraise our ring the same day. He did a thorough and complete job explaining the process as he went. His knowledge and care were remarkable. Without prior discussion or appointment, he spontaneously and generously provided information about additional jewelry that we were unable to obtain elsewhere and he agreed to repair a bracelet we thought was unfixable - and at a reasonable price. We are grateful that we found him and Milo and we will definitely return!
Response from the owner:Thank you for your great review. It was a pleasure to work with you. So glad you enjoyed your time with me Regards. David Stern
